http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13485246/ns/technology_and_science-innovation/t/surveillance-robots-patrol-world-cup/Welcome to Robotics My research is about robots being used to patrol in the 2006 World Cup.These robots are German robots developed by the Robowatch company which were placed under every patrol parking lots of the stadium. The robot’s name is OFRO,which starts at $76,000 and it resembles the Mars Rovers. It uses thermal cameras at night to detect intruders by sensing their body heat.It is similar to the ones the US used as scouts in Iraq, but this one detects toxins, viruses, chemical warfare agents.
THese robots get navigation from a Global Positioning System satellites and send pictures back to the central room in the stadium called the Skybox.Through remote control, they could be sent to check out anything suspicious.
The second robot,MOSRO,is shaped like a R2-D2 from “star wars”.This machine, which starts at $15,000 ,uses mostly video cameras to catch intruders in the parking lots.
So basically what these things do is they have sensors attached to them that detect human body heat and some type of radiation. And when these robots detect the factors listed above, they send messages to the main rooms that give signal to the operators there.& Automation Class
